Vernola Lyles, 69, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center.  She was born on April 6, 1949 in Shannon, MS to the late George and Katherine Foster.  She was the second of three children. Vernola graduated from Siggers High School in Shannon, MS.  She married Tom Henry "Poonie Loggerhead" Lyles Jr on July 8, 1967 and their union lasted over 51 years until her death.  She devoted her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Johnson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Shannon, MS.  She remained a faithful and hardworking steward for her church and community until her illness. She was employed at Lanier Clothing (formerly Hunter Sadler) for over 40 years.  After its closure, she started multiple businesses and was a successful self made businesswoman until her passing.  Her hobbies were cooking, sewing, gardening, her businesses and spending time with family.  She was a true family matriarch whose dedication to family included all of her family trees.  Never was her door or home closed to a family member or friend in need. She is survived by her husband, Tom Henry Lyles, her children, Vanessa Lyles Sanders (Jose) of Tupelo, MS, Henry Kevin Lyles Sr (Siobhan) of Woodbridge, VA, Danielle Lyles Harvey (Lynn) of Clinton, MS, Sandra Webb of Lansing, MI and God Son Calvin Wayne Morris of Shannon, MS; her grandchildren Arielle Janae Lyles, Kennedie Amara Lyles, and Henry Kevin Lyles Jr of Woodbridge, VA and Daven Jose Sanders and Daniel Javon Sanders of Tupelo, MS, Latrice Murray Payne (Richard) and Clarissa Murray of Lansing, MI; two great grand children Michael McClinton Jr and Ayanna Thomas of Lansing, MI; her sisters, Gloria Jean Cheeks of Chicago, Ill and Rae Anderson of Princeton, Texas; four sisters-in-law, Louella Hatton of Lombard, Illinois, Arvilla Gardner of Chicago Illinois, Martha Allen Green of Killeen, TX, and Jerlena Foster of Shannon, MS; one brother-in-law, Danny Howard Lyles (Ann) of Waukegan, IL; special niece Charise Cheeks Dues of McKinney, TX and special nephew Kermit Rogers of Shannon, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Theodis Foster, several brothers-in-law, uncles and aunts and her nephew Danny Howard Lyles Jr. Services will be Thursday Jan 3, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Johnson Chapel MB Church in Shannon, MS. The body will lie in state for two hours prior for public viewing.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday Jan 2, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at N. L.
