Michael D. Dabbs was born in Itawamba County on August 31, 1949, to John L. and Erma Dabbs. Michael was a member of Friendship CME where he served as chairman of the Steward Board, a member of the Trustee Board, and Adult Sunday School Teacher. Michael was a 1967 graduate of East High School in Fulton, MS. His service in the United States Army began when he was drafted in 1968. He served as an Infantryman, Military Police, and Unit Supply Sergeant. Michael received several awards during his career including, but not limited to, a Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer's Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He served a total of 33 years. He retired from the Army/Army National Guard as Sergeant First Class in 2003. Michael was a member of the American Legion Post 49 and the MS Army National Guard Association. After retirement, Michael worked at DHL. A member of the Masonic Fraternal Order, Michael was the Worshipful Master of Abney Lodge #223A, Dorsey, MS. Michael was happiest around family and friends driving his tractor, working in his garden, and working on anything that needed "or didn't need" fixing.
