Mary Constin Patterson Smith, 87, of Shannon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019, with her family by her side. She was born January 29, 1931 in Shannon, MS to the late Mamie (Roberts) and Henry Patterson, Sr. Mary was united in marriage to the late Edgar Lee Smith in 1947, a union that lasted for 65 years until his death in 2012. She attended school in Shannon, MS and was a member of Union Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Shannon, MS. A loving mother and homemaker, Mary was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She also loved working in her garden, admiring her flowers, canning fruits and putting up vegetables from her garden. She was a fun-loving lady who loved to laugh. She was affectionately known to her family as "Mudear." Mary leaves to cherish her loving memories eight children, Joyce (Jimmy) Jones of Shannon, MS; Belinda Shumpert of Allen, TX; Alvin Smith of Shannon, MS; Kelvin (Lenton) Smith of Tupelo, MS; Terry (Ruby) Smith of Shannon, MS; Constin Smith of Shannon, MS; Bernard (Angela) Smith of Wren, MS; Sonya (David) Fields of Verona, MS and a son-in-law, Winfred Shumpert of Shannon, MS. She will also continue to live in the hearts of her six siblings, Retha Tucker of Las Vegas, NV; Synobia Gray of St. Louis, MO; Edna Hazelett of Gary, IN; Willa Patterson of St. Louis, MO; Evelyn Spencer of Chesterfield, MO, and Bobby Patterson of Chesterfield, MO. Mary is also survived by 25 grandchildren, and 37 great grandchildren, and a number of other loving relatives and close friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Patrick Smith and Wayne Smith, granddaughter, Letonja Jones, great granddaughter, Amber Blanchard, four sisters and three brothers. The visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019, from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at N. L. Jones Funeral Directors. The funeral service celebrating her life will be Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Union Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in Shannon, MS.
