Lena Mae Gray Lena Mae Gray was the fourth of nine children born to the late Ed and Julia Gray on January 5, 1938 in Macon, MS. Lena was an active member of New Providence M.B. Church in Tupelo, MS. As a teenager, Lena was the lead singer of her family's gospel group, The Gray Sisters. The group performed with The Staples Singers, The Pilgrim Jubilees, The Williams Brothers, The Canton Spirituals, and Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes. Lena was also very active in the Civil Rights movement. In 2004, she was honored by the Lee county branch of the NAACP with the Freedom Fighter Award. Lena received her wings on February 16, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memories, one son Patrick Gray of Tupelo, MS; three sisters, Lucille Partlow, Vonnia Clay, and Mary (John) Bradley all of Tupelo, MS; two brothers, Jimmie Gray and Gregory Gray of Tupelo, MS; four grandchildren, John (Da'Nah) Gray of Southaven, MS, Torrell Gray of Tupelo, MS, Tamara Gray and O'Neal Gray of Memphis, TN; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Lena is preceded in death by her parents Ed and Julia Gray; three brothers Tommie Gray, Willie Howard Gray, and Ulish Gray; one sister Eddie Mae Gray; and brother-in-laws George Clay and Walter Partlow Sr. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at New Providence M.B. Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Friday, February 23, 2018 at N. L. Jones Funeral Directors. Burial will follow the funeral at Porter's Memorial.
