Mr James "Big Jim" Shumpert, Sr. 79 passed at his residence in Verona, Ms surrounded by his loving wife and family .Mr Shumpert attended Carver High School. He joined the U.S.Marine Corps in 1953 and served until he left the service with a medical honorable discharged in 1955. He then served his civilian career working with Globe Wholesaler and at Sears Bank & Trust Co.as the first African- American Brink's teller &bank officer in Chicago,IL for 18 years. Ms. Shumpert relocated back to Verona, Ms in July 1981 with his wife where he was a civil servant and retired from Miss Department of Transportation after 15 years of service. Big Jim loved cooking, grilling and working on cars. Mr Shumpert loved his family and friends. Mr James Shumpert leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife Jean Lucille"Lucy (nee Scales) of 62 years six daughters ,Sandra (Michael)Shumpert Hadley ,Tina Shumpert of Chicago,IL Jean( Ron) Richardson Beverly(Marvin) Gaston and Toy Shumpert of Tupelo,Ms Phillis Shumpert(Jeffery)Davis of Franklin, WI ,one son Willie Ray Shumpert of Chicago ,IL special daughter Denise(Willie) Johnson of Matteson,IL four brothers Jimmy(Delores) Casey ,Melvin Shumpert of Tupelo,Ms Willie George Shumpert and Charles Shumpert of Grand Rapids ,MI nine sister Louise Clark ,Hilda Smith of Chicqgo.IL Addie(Robert) Patterson of Corinth ,Ms Ms Carrie (James) Wilson of Land O'Lakes,FL,,Martha(Alexander) Anderson ,Elizabeth Shumpert,Lillie (Bedford),Scales,Florida Gregory,and Carolyn Wilson of Tupelo,Ms a host of grand,great grand nieces and nephews and other cousin. he was preceded in death by his parents and son James Shumpert and brothers William Shumpert & Floyd Shumpert Sister Mary Peppers
