Grace Penson was born on May 9, 1917 to Charlie McCallister and Margie Barnes. PaPa Benjamin Boose assisted in raising Gracie in Tupelo, MS. Gracie confessed an early hope in Christ, was baptized and united with Red Oak Grove MB Church in Saltillo, MS. She remained faithful and busy in the Sunday school, usher, and Mother's Board Ministries until her failing health. In addition, she was a member of Williams Chapter #417 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the former Herod of Jericho Chapter, Saltillo, MS. She married John Lewis (Buddy) Penson and to this union 11 children were born. She attended school in Saltillo, MS. She worked along side her husband Buddy in their grocery store, Café, Garden and Truck Patch. She also assisted with their hog farm, delivered local babies as a midwife, worked with Dr. Joseph Kellem, the family dentist, worked at the Green Café cooking meals for County Prisoners, cooked for Lee County School District and Milam School and retired from Church Street School. She leaves to cherish her memories: (2) daughters; Mamie Wells, Detroit, MI; Maxine Jackson-Caldwell, Alton, IL: (4) sons; Willie Penson and Tommie L (Diane) Penson, St. Louis, MO; Bobby (Tarnell ) Penson and Ben Albert Penson, Saltillo, MS: (1) brother; Charlie C. Barnes, Saltillo, MS; 29 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, 5 great-great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives.
