Dovie D. Crayton was born March 30, 1935 to Elder Booker T. Wortham and Elder Emma Mayes in Tula, MS in Lafayette County. Se joined the Church of The Living God-Tupelo at an early age. She moved to Chicago, IL and returned back to Tupelo, and rejoined the Church in 1988, where she remained until her death. She attended Carver High School and Jewell Academy in Nashville, TN. She married Clarence Babbitt, and unto this union twin were born. She later married John Allen Crayton. She was a kind and comical person. She loved her family and did everything she could to protect them. Dovie was out spoken and didn't hold back about how she felt. Her latter days were filled with turning her life to Jesus. The days she spent in the hospital, she sung her favorite and she would pray. Her dongs were "I gave up all to follow Jesus" "Have you decided which way to go" & "Ninety-nine and a half won't do". Even you couldn't understand her, she would say, "God is so good to me". She leaves to cherish her memories Her Husband of 26 years: John Allen Crayton, her daughter: Minister Joyce Flemons; her son: Minister Donald Babbitt; 4 granddaughters: Trina (Lonnie) Hollingsworth, Denise Rochelle Freeman, Yolanda James, and Tisha Stewart, all of Tupelo; 6 grandsons: Marcus (Creasha) Babbitt, Quincy Babbitt, Prentiss Babbitt, Demetris Babbitt, Dexter Babbitt, and Ronald Babbitt, Jr. all of Tupelo; twenty-eight great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson: Keontay Freeman; 1 Brother: Mr. Cleness Wortham Chicago, IL; 2 sisters Mrs. Ella Mae McIntosh and Mrs. Emma Jean (Marion) Morrow both of Tupelo; 4 sisters-in-law; 4 brothers-in-law; her special friend, Sis. Ruby Russell; a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, 1 granddaughter and 1 great grandson.
