Mrs Carrie Mae Word was born on December 10,1936 in Monroe County. she was the second child born to the late Irie John and Annie Jannie Griffin.Carrie Mae grew up in Wren community and attended the Wren Colored School. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Union Grove United Methodist Church.As a young woman, she met and married John L.Word Jr. To this union four children were born. She lived several years in Brooklyn NY before returning to the place she loved,the Wren Community. she loved to cook and spent many years working for the Western Sizzlin Restaurant in Amory Ms where she received Employee of the year for 1995. she loved being outdoors gardening and growing beautiful flowers. most of all she loved her family.she leaves to cherish he memory, three sons,Larry D.(Anita)Word of Flowood,Ms,Gregory W.Word,Dennis J,Word Sr, both of Wren Ms, one daughter Laurie A(Alvin) Small of Wren Ms, two brothers,Ira (Bertha)Griffin of Chicago,IL Tom (Mary)Griffin of Wren Ms,one sister Georgiann Braylock of Wren five grandchildren a host of nieces and nephew ,cousin and many friends. the funeral was held  Sat  February 13,2016 1:00pm at Union Grove U.M.Church the burial was in the Church Cemetery
