Billy Wayne Griffin was born on May 20, 1961 to the late
Erskin and Ollie Griffin. He was the eighth born of nine
children. Billy began his Christian journey at an early age.
During his childhood, he attended Union Grove United
Methodist Church. Later as an adult, he became a member
of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church under the
leadership of Pastor George Taylor where he remained a
faithful member until death.
While at New Prospect M.B. Church, Deacon Billy was a
dedicated member who worked on different committees
and in different positions. He was an ordained Deacon,
served as the Sunday School Superintendent, was a loyal
member of the Male Chorus, and also served as an Usher.
Following high school, Deacon Billy began his career
with MTD Aircap and retired after 35 years of service.
Deacon Billy enjoyed his retirement by engaging in
church activities, family gatherings, and supporting his
favorite football team, the Washington Redskins.
On Friday, February 19, 2021, Deacon Billy went home
to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He leaves to
cherish his legacy, his loving wife of 21 years, Joyce
Griffin; his two children: LaTasha McIntosh and Justin
Griffin of Tupelo, MS; two stepchildren: Miketra
Richardson of Shannon, MS and Roderick Richardson of
New Orleans, LA. 2 sisters, 4 brothers; 4 grandsons and 1
granddaughter; 13 sisters-in-law, 6 brothers-in-laws, and a
loving mother-in-law. He also leaves a host of nieces,
nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Erskin and Ollie
Griffin and brothers: Freddie Griffin, Wimp Griffin, and
James Darden.
