With deepest sympathy as we remember Rev. Robert James Jamison... Servant Leader, Educator, Pastor, Husband and Father Robert James Jamison, son of the late Van Jamison and Cora Perkins Jamison and beloved grandson of Luke and Dilcie Perkins, was born May 28, 1936 in Tupelo ("Shake Rag"), MS. He was the third of four children and professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. He passed into the loving arms of God on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. Robert graduated from George Washington Carver High School and married his high school sweetheart, Minnie Lee Edwards, in 1954. He received degrees from Mississippi Industrial College, University of Utah and Memphis Theological Seminary. He was employed as an educator in the Tishomingo, Booneville, Tupelo districts and the University of South Carolina-Columbia; Director of Head Start; Executive Director of LIFT, Inc. and U.S. Census Bureau Specialist. He served as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Pontotoc, MS, New Providence Missionary Baptist Church, and People's Community Baptist Church in Tupelo, MS. He also was a past officer of the Springhill District Association and the General Progressive Baptist State Convention. Robert loved people and touched many lives with encouraging words, community service and kind deeds through the Tupelo Biracial Committee, Lee County NAACP, American Red Cross, Community Development Foundation, Tupelo Rotary, Friends of North MS State Hospital and Tupelo Ministerial Alliance. His service and leadership has been recognized by the National Council of Negro Women, Black Business Association of Mississippi, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity (Mu Mu Chapter), Fuller Center for Housing/Habitat for Humanity, Mississippi Trailblazers, Community Development Foundation, CREATE Foundation and UniFest. Robert was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather who was always there for family. He was also a friend, mentor, play dad and faith partner to many. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife and his sister, Loistine Jamison of Tupelo, MS. Left to cherish his memories are his son, Robert "Fonda" Jamison, Jr. of Silver Spring, MD; three daughters, Searcy (Ray) Taylor and Venita Goins of Gulfport, MS, Marcy Jamison of Tupelo, MS; four grandchildren, Christen Shane Jamison of Philadelphia, PA, Julicia "GiGi" Taylor of Camp Spring, MD, William (Ashlee) Goins and daughter, Ava Claire of Starkville, MS, Jamison Goins of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Jennie Kincaid and Annie Turner of Milwaukee, WI, Dora Thomas of Memphis, TN; one brother, Tyree Jamison of Rockville, MD; two brother-in-laws, Eddie Edwards and Obie Edwards of Verona, MS; one sister-in-law, Leora Edwards of Verona, MS and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A celebration of his life will be on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Hope Church in Tupelo, MS. Visitation will be Friday, March 29, 2019 at People's Community Baptist Church from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.nljonesandsons.com or on Facebook at N. L.
